community at large.

An association is "a union of individual units which cooperate for a
purpose". This association is a union of Christian home educating
families and friends which cooperates for the common purpose of
encouraging each other in the endeavors of faithfully training and
educating their children at home. We believe that parents who have
chosen this educational alternative are accountable to God to
discharge these duties in an honorable and responsible manner,
towards the attaining of educational excellence and good
citizenship. We further believe that with parents rests the sole
responsibility for the care, training, and education of our children
(Deuteronomy 6:4-9). Authority for such training can be delegated
where appropriate; however, the ultimate responsibility remains with
the parent.
The Executive Council shall be a self-perpetuating body. It shall
consist of a minimum of five couples, a maximum of seven couples,
five elected by the acting Executive Council and two Members at
Large, elected by the membership. Members of the Executive Council
shall be current or former home educating parents or supportive of
home education and shall be members in good standing of the
association. The term 'member', relating to the Executive Council,
refers to a couple and each couple has one (1) vote. It is
preferable that the husband and wife attend meetings; however if
only one spouse can attend, the spouse in attendance duly represents
the couple and has the ability to vote. Candidates for election to
the Executive Council must affirm before the Executive Council
verbally and with a signature their concurrence with the by-laws of
the association, including the Purpose and Philosophy and the
Statement of Faith, and must profess by credible testimony of their
faith in Jesus Christ and demonstrate a viable interest in home
education.

Home Educators of Greater
Little Rock (Home Ed) is a local support group for Little Rock area
homeschoolers. Currently, our group is made up of about 500 families
and over 1,000 homeschooled students. We are the largest local
homeschool group in Arkansas.
What is a sub-group? Home Ed of Greater Little Rock covers a large
geographical area. There are some activities or events that can best
be accomplished (sometimes only be accomplished) by combining our
efforts - like graduation or sports. However, there are some
activities that don't require that we drive for miles to get
together. For this reason, Home Ed has three sub-groups that are
divided by geographical location. These sub-groups enable us to meet
the needs of our members in smaller group settings and help us
provide easily accessed activities and meetings. Except in special
instances, members of Home Ed are welcome to attend activities
offered by any of the three sub-groups.
We offer support information and connection opportunities with other
homeschool parents. We also have activities and small groups based
on interest and available leadership. We have over 350 events or
activities annually - of a wide variety and covering all grades.
These include frequent Parent Support Meetings, Roller Skating,
group attendance at the Children's Theatre, Field Trips, Homecoming,
Junior-Senior Prom, Graduation, and other activities. There are also
one-day classroom-based programs in both Little Rock and North
Little Rock that provide supplemental education. We have an Athletic
Association providing baseball, boys and girls basketball, girls
volleyball, etc.
Our members are current homeschoolers. Homeschooling is an
educational choice in which the parent/guardian takes both the
practical and legal responsibility for their child's education. This
responsibility includes curriculum selection, teaching the student,
assigning grades, etc. A homeschooler in Arkansas will have
submitted a Homeschool Intent Form. Any student who is participating
in an educational option in which a Homeschool Intent Form is not
required is not considered a homeschooler.
Since our group started in 1985, we have not had any significant
issues with safety and privacy. We believe this is due to the fact
that we take each member/family's safety and privacy VERY seriously.
We are very careful about the distribution and publication of member
information. We are VERY serious about safety and privacy, and
especially about protecting our children.
We are not a "reporting agency". Our information is not provided to
any other individual or organization (such as the Department of
Education or State/National homeschool organizations).
