City Gates Academy is a Christian cooperative
school founded on the principles of God’s Word and welcomes families
of all beliefs.
We believe that God created the heavens and the earth and all
therein. We believe that Jesus is the Son of God, born of the Virgin
Mary, that He died for our sins, was buried, and was resurrected on
the third day. We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God and
are committed to teaching our students according to its principles.
The City Gates curriculum is designed for families who desire
cooperative involvement in their child(ren)’s education. Weekly
classroom instruction provides the framework for parent-assisted
education at home. Parents are responsible for tailoring their
child(ren)’s curriculum to meet the requirements of their state for
graduation and/or college admissions. Together with our families, we
strive to follow God’s direction and are open to change and grow as
He leads.
This is the curriculum for tyhe 2010-2011 school year. The Book List
has been moved to the OFFICE, top left on the Home Page. Any books
that are needed now are ordered by parents. Teachers are finished
the ordering for the year
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the
Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an
inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are
serving. Col 3: 23,24
At City Gates Academy, it is our desire to truly serve God through
serving the homeschooling community. We seek to go about the
business of teaching in a Christian environment and to help our
students manifest Christian values as they go about the business of
learning.
We teach our students respect for one another, and for one another’s
gifts, as well as respect for their own God-given abilities. We
encourage the kind of behavior that will reinforce this respect.
Our teachers and parent monitors need to be able to rely on
students’ respect for authority to enforce the rules of the school
that we believe will serve the students best, by showing them how to
exhibit the virtues of kindness, diligence, modesty, and integrity.
Our parent volunteers are essential to maintaining a safe and
orderly atmosphere in school during the school day, and we ask for
continued cooperation from all our parents in instilling in their
students respect for proper authorities.
Our hope is to create for our students a sense of community, in
which all members work toward the common goals of academic
excellence and formation of Christian character, to the glory of
God.

# First of all, for some
general information and Frequently Asked Questions about
homeschooling, please try this page:
FAQs on Homeschooling
(Well, I'm going to plug my own site, aren't I? <g>)
# Search out homeschoolers and talk to them.
Find out which alternative they use to homeschool -- district
superintendent, a member of a non-public (often called umbrella)
school, or if they are their own non-public school so you can get an
idea of which way you think is best for your family. Research the
methods of homeschooling, such as Classical, Charlotte Mason,
Unschooling, Unit Studies, etc. Determine not only how you will
homeschool but which legal option would be best for your family. My
FAQs on Homeschooling page gives a brief explanation of these
methods.
If you go the non-public school route, decide if you will become
your own school or join an existing one. (The only drawback of a new
homeschooler creating their own school is that there is the chance
of being more isolated and not getting the support you need while
adjusting your lifestyle and home to homeschooling. If you become
your own non-public school, try to get involved with homeschoolers,
either through a support group or just with some homeschooling
friends, to avoid being isolated.)
Homeschooling is a lifestyle. If you think you can work
homeschooling around your lifestyle, you will become frustrated and
most likely give up. Homeschooling will cause some major upheavals
in your home; be prepared and roll with the punches. Remember -- the
benefits and rewards of homeschooling are wonderful and well worth
the effort.
